Our Story
Defender Asset Management (Defender AM) was born from Family Office beginnings, which means we start all investment journeys with a focus on growth and preservation of capital. This philosophy is what drives our commitment to delivering value to our co-investors and clients across our portfolio of investment funds and services.

How We Invest
We invest the assets of each fund in line with its individual investment mandate and strategy, identifying the best risk adjusted return opportunities in a given investment environment. Our alignment of interests stems from our co-investment model – our principals and team are investors across our funds and this is what drives our commitment to delivering value.
Team
James Manning
Director | Responsible Manager

James is a responsible manager for Defender AM. His role includes overseeing compliance and management of the various funds.
Aside from his role with Defender AM, James is the Managing Director of Vertua Limited, a NSX listed company and he is the CEO and Founder of Mawson Infrastructure, a global leading – edge digital asset infrastructure company.
Olga Shtifelman
Director | Responsible Manager
BBIS, and MBA (Finance)
Olga is a Responsible Manager for Defender AM. Her role includes designing policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, implementing technology solutions, and overseeing the various funds Defender manages.
Olga is RG146 compliant specialist. In addition to her role with Defender AM, Olga is the COO at Vertua Limited, a NSX listed investment company.
Kathleen Howell
Director | Responsible Manager
B.Business, B.SC (Psychology)
Kathleen brings a strong people and management background with more than 10 years of management experience across a number of industries including hospitality, health and professional services. Kathleen is also the Head of People and Culture at Vertua Limited and has completed her AICD Company Secretary Course.
Martin Rogers
Responsible Manager
B. Eng(Chemical), B. Sc(Computer)
Martin is a responsible manager for Defender AM. His role includes overseeing
compliance and management of various funds.
A seasoned ESVCLP fund manager, Martin Rogers has spent decades in investment markets. He is an experienced entrepreneur and investor in all aspects of deal origination, due diligence, operations management and financial execution.
Nick Hughes Jones
Responsible Manager
Bachelor of Commerce (Corporate Finance/Business Law)
Nick is responsible for the investment management strategy of Defender
Capital’s key investment funds and the formulation and implementation
of the investment process. For 12 years prior to joining Defender Capital,
Nick worked at Bell Potter Securities and Southern Cross Equities, two of Australia’s leading equities and funds management companies, where he managed over $500m for family offices and HNW individuals.
